The Flower Maiden
眠りの歌 (Nemuri no Uta, Song of Sleep) is the eighth episode of Wolf's Rain. The episode aired in the United States on June 12th, 2004.
They rejoin the others, but the old woman appears and removes her sunglasses, showing that she has the same red eyes as Cheza. She explains that she is a Hanabito, an imperfect form of a Flower Maiden. She escaped from Darcia's castle after the other Hanabito started withering and dying. Although she was able to escape, she could still feel each of their deaths. She warns Cheza not go with the wolves because it will led to destruction, but Cheza says they are going to Paradise, even though the wolves hadn't mentioned it to her yet.
Cher locates the tree they had disappeared behind using her radar, but the wolves surround her. Kiba drops his disguise for a moment showing her that she was correct in believing they are wolves.
They escape into the city and Cheza confirms that the wolves want her to stay with them. They later return to the hanabito's tree-home so Cheza can extend the Hanabito's life, but the Hanabito stops her and says she's satisfied with having finally met a true Flower Maiden. Cheza cries for the Hanabito when she dies.
- Hanabito: The flowers are singing; they are always singing. But nobody ever seems to notice.
- This is the first and only episode that another of Cheza's species is seen.
- The "hana" in "hanabito" means "flower" in Japanese.
